Terry Stop in Tredyffrin Township

Minutes before walking into the house I was stopped by a Tredyffrin officer cruising in the SUV. He just pulled out of my complex, slowly cruised past me and popped a U turn. I knew what was coming so I slowed down and waited while he brought the traffic on the street to a standstill.

He inquired if I was carrying a pistol and if I had a permit and if it was with me. A guy in a red fire chief marked SUV that always parks illegally down the street pulled up. He asked the cop if he needed help. The cop informed me that the guy who pulled up was also a cop.

I wasn't hand cuffed but he did my hands behind my back and asked me to just bear with him while he checked everything. He drew my pistol, dropped the mag carefully and cleared it. Then he had a senior moment and went back to the truck for his reading glasses. He asked me if I had anything else on me because it looked like I had a lot of knives on me and stuff on my keys. I told him that was the only pistol on me today, knife, multitool. He quickly verified my concealed carry permit, saw my address and my old address and returned it to me.

He then started talking how he just was out hiking the Appalachian trail yesterday and we talked about how cool it is to live just backing out onto the trail.

He asked why I had all the stuff on me and the usual questions and I gave him all the usual answers along the lines of none of your business, is that illegal, none of your business etc which he took with a smile. He explained that the reason he stopped me is he saw a kubaton on my keys, what looked like handcuff keys, a knife then looked on my hip and realized I was carrying. Told me he had to investigate and if I want to open carry I should just open carry or to wear a longer short if I'm concealing. He waited while I reloaded my pistol and reholstered.

He told me when he sees handcuff keys and kubatons and a pistol he usually knows its a cop or security or something of that type.

The entire street started moving. They were probably wondering what the hell was going on. They would probably be upset to know we were bullshitting about hiking most of the time. Must be a sight seeing a drawn pistol in the middle of the street, then seeing it reloaded and holstered.

Overall the officer acted professionally and just followed the law to investigate, and followed department protocol stopping a guy wearing a pistol and knives.
